The Bannerghatta Biological Park (better known as the Bannerghatta National Park) is a beautiful expanse of forested land in the southern region of Bangalore (Bengaluru), the capital city of Karnataka. It is one of the green lungs in the midst of the concrete city jungle. The Bannerghatta Biological Park is managed and maintained by the Zoo Authority of Karnataka (ZAK). There are two unique rescue centers within the Park (not open to visitors): (1) a center for lions rescued from the Indian Circuses, which receives funds from the Government of India; and (2) a center for the tigers rescued from European Circuses, which is funded by the Born Free Foundation of UK.
Facilities for visitors include: Parking space, a children’s playground, a picnic area with restaurant, and drinking water facilities. There are lots of interesting things to see and do at the Bannerghatta Biological Park, such as going on bus Safari rides to see wild animals, watching wildlife film shows, trekking, picnicking and even riding elephants! While most of the denizens roam freely in their separate natural habitats, some animals are kept in cages in the Zoo area. There is an amazing Butterfly Park too, a musuem, and an auditorium.
