Jog Falls Karnataka is one of the top five reasons for a flourishing tourism industry in Karnataka. This spectacular waterfall is a segmented waterfall with four branching falls: the Raja (meaning King, as it has a royal dignity), the Roarer (named so due to the maximum noise it creates as it cascades down), the Rocket (it plunges down at great speed from a small opening), and the Rani (meaning Queen or lady, due to its graceful form akin to a female dancer). Also known as Gersoppa Falls and Jogada Gundi, the four segments that make up the Jog Falls Karntaka have been created by the Sharavathi River.
Main Attractions near Jog Falls Karnataka
The nearest residential areas to Jog Falls are Sagar and Shimoga, where you can spend a few hours on the way to or back from the falls. At Sagar you can visit the Kaledi Rameshwar Temple, while at Shimoga you can visit the Saint Thomas Church and the Shivappa Naik Palace.
You can enjoy picnicking at Murudeshwar and at the B.R.P. Dam, and water sports at Honnemaradu. Those who enjoy bird watching can visit the Mandagadde Bird Sanctuary (32Kms from Shimoga) and the Guduvi Bird Sanctuary (16 Kms from Soraba taluka of Shimoga district). Even more exciting tourist spots: the Tyarekoppa Lion Safari & the Sakrebayalu Elephant Camp.
You can avail of fairly good rates & accommodation with the KSTDC tourist package to Jog Falls that includes trips to the town of Sagar and the Linganmakki Dam across the River Sharavathi.
