Udupi tourism has been flourishing mainly due to being the hub of pilgrimage tours, especially to one of the country’s most famous temples dedicated to the Hindu God Krishna, the Krishna Mutt. During the famous bi-annual Paryaya Festival, the management of the Temple is passed on to one of the eight Mathas (religious organizations) which maintains and oversees the administration of the temple complex.
