The University of Mysore (UOM) is Karnataka's very first University. It was established by Maharaja of Mysore, His Highness Sri Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV and and his Dewan, Sir M.Visvesvaraya, in 1916.
The University of Mysore, Karnataka campus was created in 1960 near Kukkarahalli Lake. The University of Mysore Headquarters, the Crawford Hall, is located across the lake.
Starting with just a few faculties - Arts, Science, Engineering and Technology, and Medicine - the University of Mysore, Karnataka, has over the years expanded greatly. It now has 37 post graduate departments, 8 specialised research & training centres and 2 post graduate centres. The University of Mysore offers academic as well as co-curricular activities.
The present Chancellor of University of Mysore, Karnataka is Sri Hansraj Bhardwaj.
The University of Mysore Karnataka also has numerous colleges affiliated to it both within and outside Karnataka. These totally are: 122 affiliated colleges and 5 Constituent Colleges.
