Bhagavad Gita had been in news over a controversy in Russia recently. Court decision there helped to lift ban on Gita. The other day Government of Karnataka mooted a proposal for introducing Gita in schools. There have been reactions to it and many political parties take it as an attempt to saffronise education in Karnataka. Chief Minister has maintained that Gita did not belong to a particular religion or a sect but has universal teachings. Girish Karnad, the famous actor in Karnataka has also voiced against introducing it.

How do the members view this latest move of Government of Karnataka?

It will be a very good practice to introduce relevant portions of the Geetha in the syllabus of the school studies. Geetha does not preach any religion. On the contrary the contacts are lessons for improving the personality of the individuals. If Geetha is introduced in the schools throughout the country the next generation citizens will be far better than our generation.

While we are creating noise on the issue many foreign countries have adopted many portions of the contents and are giving special classes in personality development programs at very high fees. Even many from our country have gone to other countries, mainly the USA to learn and on coming back are giving classes to the citizens of our country at a fees.

Ramanathan Ji, I only hope our politicians learn from this and abstain from gaining political mileage from such issues.
