    Wish U all (Happy New Year) - Happy Ugadi, Yugadi, Samvatsaradi

    Today is the Ugadi, Yugadi or Samvatsaradi day the New Year day of Karnataka. Ugadi is the new year day for all state who follow the lunisolar calendar year when the new year starts on the shukla paksha paadyami (first day) of Chaitra masa (first month) in the first ritu (season) of Vasantha. For all races of people the most important festival is the new year day. Similarly for Kannadigas ugadi is a very important festival day. There are several legends as to how or why the festival is observed and is explained elsewhere. In brief it is attributed to the day when Lord Brahma the Creator started creation of the universe; to the day when Lord Krishna left the world to his abode of Vaikunta or the start of Kaliyuga; to the day Bhaaskaracharya a astronomer/mathematician of Bijapur of yester years calculated as the new year day; to the day when the Shalivahana empire was founded.

    Thanks for wishing the new year and explaining the significance of the day which is not know to most of the people in Northern states. It is always a pleasure to know different customs and related historical background. India is a great land with many religions and customs and regional peculiarities. Is spite of all these diversities India is one country exhibiting tolerance and coexistence to the world.
