Drivers of vehicles violating traffic rules are to be punished heavily

The Union Cabinet committee has proposed amendments to the Motor Vehicles Act making a way for punishing heavily the drivers violating the traffic regulations. Once the proposals get the parliamentary nod, the drivers will face heavy penalties and longer jail terms than as at present. There have been lot of road accidents in India just because of the negligence of drivers. The cases of hit and run are reported almost every day in the news. The drunken driving has become quite common. The drivers never hesitate to jump traffic signals. They are not bothered at all for the traffic regulations about using of mobile phones while driving. Over-speeding of the vehicles have become a plaything for the young drivers. Under aged children not eligible for motor vehicle licenses are found driving on the city roads. Let us discuss whether the new regulations will put a stop to the traffic violations by the drivers?

You have depicted the conditions on our roads very well. Many accidents occur because many drivers do not follow the traffic rules. Getting a driving license is not that difficult in this country. In foreign countries one has to pass an exam also. We will find many young students driving bikes ruthlessly without caring the rules and many a times without a helmet. There is a rat race on the roads and every body wants to be ahead of every body else. This is how road accidents are invited. The present step of the government to make the law stringent can go a long way if implemented in letter and spirit. It is unfortunate that many of the offenders escape punishment in connivance with police. Let us only hope that new law comes to force at an early date and also people are educated and reminded time and again about the importance of knowing and following traffic rules.

The drivers who violate the traffic rules are to be punished very strictly, because by violating the traffic rules, they are not only endangering their own life, but also the life of other people also, especially the pedestrians. Those who drink and drive are to be punished strictly, irrespective of his social status. In India, there is a popular saying that all are equal before law, but some people are more equal. If look at into the ways in which the celebrities are treated in our country, we can easily understand this thing. A famous bollywood acter had killed a person while driving a car a few years ago, but he was not punished for that. One thing that we must bear in our minds is that the lives of all other people are as important as our lives. So those who violate the traffic rules must be punished severely.
