This is the main centre of Dakshina Kannada and a modern major port. It has a long history of maritime trade. It is developed as a business and commercial centre. It still retains its old charms. Abbakka ruled and defected the Portuguese here way back in 1680. Someshwar temple and Dargah of the Sufi saint syed Malani are also worth a visit. Dharmastala Temple Karnataka

It is located at the distance of 67kms. Dharmastala is an outstanding example for Hindu mythology and culture, anciently known as Kuduma. It is surrounded on all the four sides by river Netravati. A holy sancity is attached to the Dharmastala Manjunath temple of this place which attracts many visitors all around India. The Shiva temple here is managed by a Jain management by tradition. On a nearby hillock, a statue of Gomateshwara has been recently installed which has developed as a Jain pilgrim destination. This interesting feature of this shrine is that all the tourists and devotes are fed two times of the day and provided accommodation for overnight stay.

Murudeshwar Temple Karnataka

Murudeshwar temple location: 180 km from Mangalore
Murudeshwar Temple is located at the distance of 16km from Bhatkal. Located between Honnavar and Bhatkal, a little of the NH road is this scenic holy place, and the Murudeshwar temple history states that a small piece of the Prana Linga of Mahabaleshwara of Gokarna spell down by the demon Ravanasura. An ancient temple has been constructed recently on the modern style and has some pretty carvings and statues. With the roaring sea to the west, the towering hills to the east and the coconut and area groves nearby, the temple attracts hundreds of visitors and devotes. The Pigeoin Island is off the coast.

Kukke Subramanya Temple Karnataka

It is located at the distance of 130km from mangalore. This temple is popularly known as Kukke Subramanya temple. It has an ancient temple dedicated to lord Subramanya, on the bank of river Kumaradhara. Many pilgrims visit the temple regularly to fulfill their vows. Snake wirship is a popular cult in this temple and hundreds of Naga stones can be seen here. Kartijaya is worshipped here in the form of a cobra. A great festival takes place during Subramanya Shashti. Nearby is the Kumaradri hill which is an excellent place for mountain climbing and trekking, though a hazardous task.
