What is Karnataka Premier League ?

The Karnataka Premier League is a cricket tournament program launched by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). This was launched in 2009,
in the lines of IPL (Indian Premier League). This tournament is targeted towards the cricket lovers of Karnataka state. There are some restrictions in the teams and
players to make sure majority of the players are from Karnataka state.

Auction

There are 10 district zones in Karnataka. Various franchisees who like to sponsor the KPL tournament can bid on the zones.
The highest 8 bids will be allowed to participate in the tournament.

In 2009, the Bangalore Urban zone received the highest bid. The following are the 8 zones that were selected to participate in the tournament:
Bangalore Urban
Bangalore Rural
Mangalore
Belgaum
Hubli-Dharwad
Gulbarga
Mysore
Shimoga

Number of matches inKarnataka Premier League

There will be 28 league level matches, 2 semi finals and 1 final match in the KPL Twenty-20 tournament.

Players for KPL tournament

Karnataka State Cricket Association will be form a pool of 40 top cricket players from the state. The franchisees will be asked to bid on the players and need to select 5 players each from this pool. Franchisees can select additional 7 players from a given list and 2 other players from the zone they represent. Each franchisee can include 3 other players from any part of India.

Karnataka Premier League 2010 schedule

The first KPL tournament was held in September 2009. The exact dates for the 2010 KPL is not yet announced. It is expected to be some time in September 2010.
