Sampath Kumar alias Dr.Vishnuvardhan never known that he would become a Sampath literally means treasure was born on 18th of September in the year 1950. His parents were Sri.H. L. Narayana Rao and Smt. Kamakshamma, Dr.Vishnuvardhan’s father was a very famous stage artist and a script writer for many movies also and a well known for collecting musical instruments and he was a dance teacher too, and he was recognized by the erstwhile rulers of Mysore.

Dr.Vishnuvardhan was born at Chamundipuram in Mysore, which is known for cultural heritage and traditional rituals, this is his most favourite place. His sister was a famous Kathak dancer, who was also praised by Late.SAri Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar, the erstwhile ruler of Mysore, this clearly indicates the talent was a familiar tradition in his family.

Dr.Vishnuvardhan has completed his schoolings in Gopalaswamy School at Mysore, later for middle schooling was done at Kannada Madari School at Bangalore and after this he joined National High School and later he completed graduation at National College, Basavanagudi, Bangalore.

Dr.Vishuvardhan’s first movie was Vmshavruksha which was directed by Girish Karnad, that film has won many National Awards, but it was the movie Nagarahavu brought out and catapulted him as an rising star his role Ramachari is never forgettable, other movies like Yajamana, Suryavamsha, Nagara Hole, Nishkarsha, Hombisilu and Harakeya kuri were few stands tall among his movies.

In Tamil he has acted in two movies, Viduthalai and Sri Raghavendra, both with Superstar Rajnikanth is in lead role, in Sri Raghavendra his was a guest appearance and in Viduthalai he has acted as a second hero along with thespian Shivaji Ganesan.

In Malayalam he has acted in one movie with superstar of Malayalam Mummotty in Kauravar.

In Bollywood, Dr.Vishnuvardhan has acted in three films they are Inspector Dhanush with Akshay Kumar and other two were Ashannth and Zaalim.

In one episode of famous Malgudi days he has acted that was in episode number 18 titled as ‘Forty five a month’ which was directed by late Shankarnag.

Dr.Vishnuvardhan has four siblings, Sri.Ravikumar, his elder brother, Smt.Indrani, Smt. Jayashree, Smt. Rama and Smt. Poornima were his sisters.

on 27th February, 1975 Dr.Vishnuvardhan got married to another multi-language actress Bharathi at Kuchalamba Kalyana Mantapa, near Jayanagar, Bangalore, he has two daughters Keerthi and Chandana, his son-in-law Anirudha is also a well known actor in Kannada movies.

Shridhar, he is a cook at Dr.Vishnuvardhan’s house from past 25 years, Mohammed Baig working as an assistant to Dr.Vishnuvardhan during his shooting schedules, Srinivasan is been makeup man for Dr.Vishnuvardhan for many years. Ramanand and Nityanand were his friends who were bank employees and partners for his home production unit Vishnupriya combines. Among his close and best friends Cine star Ambareesh will come first, he has been considered as his all time favorite friend in the Kannada film industry.

Dr.Vishnuvardhan was in film industry for over 37 years and he has acted in 199 movies which were released so for and 1 is yet to be released.

He is the recipient of many prestigious awards, he is the recipient of state awards for seven times for the movies Nagarahavu in1972, Hombisilu in 1978, Bhandana in the year 1984, Suprabatha in 1988, Lion Jagapathi Rao in 1991, Laali in the year 1998, VerappaNayaka in- 1999. He has won filmfare awards for five times including lifetime achievement award in the year 2003, other awards includes cinema express, Indira pratisthana, R.N.R.Award, Rajytsava award, Madras films association award and Kerala cultural and art award, Dr.Rajkumar award in the year 2007-08 for which he was selected by the government of Karnataka for his exemplary service rendered to the Knnada film industry for 37 years which carried a gold medal and cash award of Rs.two lakhs, the only award he has not received was National award, as he narrowly missed that award for his sterling performance in the film Muttinahara.

The unique record the film Suprabatha which he has acted, it has won eight different awards and it was the only movie in Kannada which has won different awards so for, those were Aragini reader’s award, FilmFare, Cine Express, Tarangini Berkley, R.Nagendra Rao award, Indira Pratishtana, Kannada Film Fan's Association and Kaladevi Award fromChennai.

He has been conferred Honorary Doctorate from Bangalore university in the year 2006, this doctorate was conferred by the Bangalore University on its 41st Convocation, and since he became Dr.Dr.Vishnuvardhan, he has received this prestigious Doctorate from Sri.T.N.Chaturvedi the then Governor of Karnataka.

He likes to wear his outfits according to situation and occasion, he is fascinated to sports cars, not specific about the food according to him the liking of the food depends on the mindset of the person, Chinese cuisine at Hotel Taj in Bangalore was his most like restaurant, when it comes to reading he is not an avid reader he liked anything simple but fast paced, sometimes he used to complete the reading of a book in a day, no books were authored by him, very superstitious and firm believer of karma and god, would like to say always nothing beyond god, he feared most for life after one’s life, though dogs are his favorite pet animals but in general liked all animals, his favorite color was white.

Bruno and Arnold Schwarzenegger were his favorite Hollywood actors among male, among female Marilyn Monroe was his favorite actress, in Bollywood Shammi Kapoor is his all time favorite actor along with Rajkumar and Dileepkumar. Maushumi Chatterjee, Sharmila Tagore and Helen were his favorite actresses, his most favorite directors were Puttanna Kanagal, Subash Ghai and William Wyler who has directed the epic movie Ben-Hur.

About his hobbies horse riding, singing listening to light music were few among favorite, Cricket and Tennis were his most favorite sports according to some newspapers the icon of Indian cricket Gundappa Viswanath has remembered Dr.Vishnuvardhan were playing together tennis ball cricket. Dr.Vishuvardhan’s favorite cricketer is Sir Vivian Richards of West Indies.

Australia was his favorite vacation spot, he used to say all the moments he talks about life with other people were memorable, he had no moments to regret as sad, all kinds of classical music were his likings, the greatest message to his fans were to be affectionate and loving all the times which were the key for his success.
