Bandipur is one of the famous tiger sanctury in India, which is in Karnataka

Bandipur National Park is one of the famous tiger sanctuaries of India. Rocky hills and valleys drained by rivers Kabini, Nugu, Moyar and numerous small streams are part of this Park. Lovely backdrop for the park is the enchanting Nilgiri Mountains and their cloud-covered peaks. With an altitude between 680-1454 metres, Bandipur National Park is situated south of the Kabini River at the foothills of the Western Ghats. Although open throughout the year, the best time to visit the Park is during the Monsoon (June to September) when the forest is green and wildlife is plenty.


History of Bandipur:

Bandipur National Park is located in the middle of a broad forest at the convergence of the Western Ghats and Nilgiri Hills. It is located at an 800 kms site in the Bandipur Reserve Forest in 1931. Bandipur Tiger Reserve was established in 1973 by carving out 880 kms from the Wildlife Park, known for constant rise in Tiger population and is also well-known for Sandal wood trees and rare species of Flora. It was used as a private game reserve by The Maharajas of Mysore. The late Maharaja Jaya Chamaraja Wodeyar, the founding Chairman of the Indian Board of Wildlife was a keen wildlife enthusiast. Bandipur is one of the best habitats of the Asian Elephant and Gaurs in their usual environs because of its location under the shadow of the Western Ghats.

Safari at Bandipur National Park :

A must do when in Bandipur. Entry fee: Rs75, foreigners Rs.175. Camera still Free. Videos Rs.100. Elephant Ride Rs.100/person for 20 mins .


6.30am, 8030am, 3.30pm and 5.30pm. Intepretation centre 9am to 5.30pm.

Spacious and comfortable accomadation at Bandipur National Park by the government of Karnataka for reasonable rates, but commonly all rooms are reserved well in advance.
