Actress and theatre artist Chindodi Leela passed away in bangalore on 21.01.201.

Chindodi Leela an actress and one of the greatest theatre artiste in karnataka passes away today after suffering heart attack here at Wockhardt Hospitals, Bangalore. She was 72 Yrs and had also undergone bypass heart surgery two days ago.


Chindodi Leela has acted in more than 32 films few are Sharapanjara, Tumbida Koda, Gaanayogi Panchakshari Gavayi, Navajeevana.She was a great theatre artist, she own a Theatre called KBR Drama Company, her play Policena Magalu (Daughter of Police) had seen 4500 shows and has entered Guinness Book of Record.

Chindodi Leela has won several awards including Padmashree award, Gubbi Veeranna Award, Shankar Gowda Award, Nataka Academy Award and Karnataka State award.

Karnataka people have lost another great entertainer this month, recently actors like Vishnuvardhan and K.S.Ashwath have expired and its a great loss the kannada film industry.

Her body will be taken to her home town Davangere and will be cremated on 23.01.09 at her Shankar Leela Farm in Davangere.

Chindodi Leela was associated with Kannada theatre for over six decades. She had also acted in blockbuster films like Sharapanjara directed by Puttanna Kanagal, and Tumbida Koda and Gaanayogi Panchakshari Gavayi. She started her career at the age of seven when her father Chindodi veerappa started teh Karibasava Rajendra Drama Company popularly known as KBR with the asistance of the Mysore Maharajas.

Chindodi Leela entered the Guinness Book of Records for acting in about 4500 shows of Polisana Magalu (Policeman's daughter). This drama was staged for the maximum number of times in a single theatre.

She was also active in politics and was a member of Belgaum City Corporation. It is a great loss for Kannada Cinema for losing such a good actor.
