Weather and Climate of Karnataka

Though there are so many beautiful tourist locations in India, Karnataka is more special among the tourists by its Unique Climatic condition. Karnataka state is a part of Deccan Plateau, the Coastal Plains and Islands. Again it is divided into 4 physiographic regions namely,
1. Northern Karnataka Plateau
2. Central Karnataka Plateau
3. Southern Karnataka Plateau
4. Karnataka Coastal Region.

Northern Karnataka Plateau

:

The Northern Karnataka Plateau is located at an elevation of 300 to 600 meters, main composition of this plateau is the Deccan Trap, which means less trees in black cotton soils.

Districts of Northern Karnataka Plateau:
Belgaum, Bidar, Bijapur and Gulbarga are the Districts located in Northern Karnataka Plateau. These states get irrigation through river plains of the Krishna, the Bhima, the Ghataprabha and the Malaprabha.

Central Karnataka Plateau

:
This is located in between the Northern and Southern Karnataka Plateaus in 450 and 700 meter elevation.

Districts of Karnataka Central Plateau:
Districts of Bellary, Chikmagalur, Chitradurga, Dharwad, Raichur and Shimoga are in Central Karnataka Plateau.

Southern Karnataka Plateau

:
The Southern Karnataka Plateau accumulates the area of the Cauvery river basin which is surrounded by Western Ghats in the west and south. It is located between 600 and 900 meter above the sea level.

Districts of Southern Karnataka Plateau:
Southern Karnataka Plateau is having Bangalore, Bangalore Rural, Hassan, Kodagu, Kolar, Mandya, Mysore and Tumkur Districts.

Karnataka Coastal Region

The Karnataka Coastal Region, covers the area in between Western Ghats, edge of the Karnataka Plateau in the east and the Arabian Sea in the West, the topological features like Mullayyana Giri, Bababudangiri, and the Kudremukh are located in Karnataka Coastal Region.

Karnataka weather:
The Weather of the Karnataka State differs according to the season.The climate of Karnataka is hot with heavy rainfall during June to September which is the monsoon season. The South Karnataka has little hot and North Karnataka has semi-arid, tropical steppe type of climate. The winter season in this state starts from January to February and from March to May will be hot summer.
The post-monsoon and winter seasons is generally considered cool and pleasant climate for the whole State. The post monsoon season starts from the month of October and ends in March.

The summer starts by the month of April and it extends up to the end of May.
Weather in the month of June is characterized by excess humidity and temperature. The next three months July, August and September are somewhat very high humidity with less temperature.

Temperature in Karnataka state:
The highest temperature recorded in Karnataka state is Raichur on 1928 May 23, which is 6 deg. Which is little higher than the normal for the warmest months. The lowest temperature recorded was 2.8 deg. C which is on 1918 December 16 at Bidar.

Rainfall in Karnataka state:
The annual rainfall of Karnataka differs from 50 to 350 cm. We can find significant increase of rainfall in the western Karnataka regions and it is optimum over the coastal belt. Karnataka state gets maximum rainfall, 80% during the south-west season. Rainfall is very less 1% during January and February which is in the winter season. In summer the Rain fall is about 7% to 12% approximately.

Best time to visit Karnataka

The difference in geographical features of this state affects the climatic condition of this region. Coastal Karnataka is having hot climate and rainy tropical monsoon climate. In the southern inland experiences hot and dry climate and the interior north Karnataka is arid but hot. Based on this geographical variation the month of September and February is considered as best time to visit Karnataka.
