Sarvajna - the poet who knows all

Sarvajna's original name is Pushpadatta , and his pen name was Sarvajna) . He was a poet in the kannada language."Sarvajna" means "who knows all" .Based on his writings, historians assumed that he might have lived in 16th century.He belongd to a small village called "Abaluru" of the haveri district in karnataka, where many good writers have taken birth.

His contribution towards kannada literature is tremendous. He has written many vachanas , which is of 3 lines , which is called as thripadhi in kannada, few of his poems or thripadi's represents religious issues, few of the poems represents the mindset of a common people(like thripadi" saalavanu kombaaga haalogarundante, saaliganu bandu elevaaga kibbadiya keelu muridante sarvjna "--which means "while taking loan, it is like having sweet milk, when creditor asks to return the money, it is painful as broken ribcage-which represnts the mindset of the people.

His poems represents the human tendency, irrespective of the generation on this earth) and also his poems deals with social issues and ethical issues too.

Channappa Uttangi,from the village uttangi(which is a village in the Hadagalli taluk of Bellary district in Karnataka.) was awarded the Kannada Sahitya Sammelana prize in 1949 for his groundbreaking work on Sarvajna.Channapa collected 2000 thripadi's of sarvajna by reading the manuscripts.

Recently Sarvajna statue unveiled in Tamilnadu.
