Location of Kabini
Kabini is a very famous for its wildlife destinations in Karnataka State, due to its thick green trees , an attractive lake, and beautiful herds of elephants.It is located just 80km from Mysore and 205km from Bangalore. This forest covers the area 55 acres of land including and water bodies.
History: In need of irrigation, Kabini Dam was built in the year 1974 and to store water a huge reservoir also built. The length of this dam is 2,284 feet and 58 mts high. We can view the famous Mastigudi temple from this reservoir during summer when the reservoir drains.
Tourist Attractions in Kabini :
This is the habitat of Asian elephant hence Wildlife safaris is there both in the morning and evening in jeeps along pre designated routes. We can spot varity of animals including leopards. In summer days the safari is conducted to watch large elephant herds which come out to search water.
Boating at Kabini
Boating here is very enjoyable, the activity like motorboat rides are done to the edge of the forest for wildlife spotting, we can view many beautiful aquatic birds, crocodiles basking on the banks, sambar deer etc. Sometimes we can see baby elephants feeding on tender bamboo shoots.
Other water activities like bamboo rafts, self pedal boats, kayaks and rowboats also there for the enjoyment of tourists.

Kabini is the best place for bird watching to be. There are more then 350 species of birds are identified here. The beautiful forests, with trees, shrubs and herbs give favorable habitat to the birds life. Some migratory birds come from different countries, built their nest, lay egg, after egg hatching they fly to their country with their offspring. During Bird watching we can see grey-headed fish eagles, ospreys Malabar pied hornbill, Malabar lark, Malabar trogonand Indian pita are the bird species.
