Major attractions in Epicenter hampi
Karnataka is one of the richest state in terms of heritage attraction in India.Hampi is one of the beautiful and wonderful heritage place in karnataka, which is the village of Bellary District on the bank of Tungabadra.
UNESCO identifies the Special herirtage centre through out the world. Hampi is also one of the world's heritage centre.
This was the capital of Vijayanagara Empire.Now Hampi is standing as witness of the richness, artistraditional values of the vijayanagara empire.
It is said every stone in Hampi has a story to tell.So many places are there to visit and to explore .
Vittal Temple:
This is one of the major attraction in Hampi. Vittala temple represents the art of that period.Vittala is a form of lord vishnu, who is second god in the hindu religion. This temple was originally build in 15th century but renovated by rluers Krishnadevaraya and Achyuta raya.The major attraction of the temple is its impressive pillared halls and stone chariot.An image of Garuda (vehicle of lord Vishnu) facing the temple's sanctum is symbolic.
The stone chariot is a built on a rectangular platform of a feet size.Stone chariot is having the four gaint wheels, which are having the decoration of concentric floral motifs.
The major attractions of the Maha-Mantapa is its richly carved giant monolithic pillars. The outermost of the pillars are called as the musical pillars. These pillars emit musical tones when tapped.
Virupaksha Temple
This is also known as the Pampapathi temple, which is located at the foot of the Hemkuta hills. The Gopura was built by Krishnadeva Raya during his Pattabhisheka in 1509.
One of the attraction in this temple is the unusual triple headed Nandi (bull statue).
One of the interesting feature in this temple is that, river Tungabhadra flows along the terrace and then flows into the kitchen and out through the outer courtyard.
Ugra Narasimha or Lakshmi-Narasimha Temple
This is a monolithic statue and the largest in Hampi, which is about 6.7 meters in height. The Narasimha is seated on the Adishesha (giant snake). The image of Laxmi which lay on one knee of this idol had fallen off, which is now kept at the museum at Kamala puram.
Prasanna Virupaksha Temple
This temple is an underground Shiva temple. Maximum part of the temple is under water and therefore inaccessible.
Sasivekalu Ganesha Temple
The Sasivekalu Ganesha about 2.4 metres tall and named as Sasivekalu( mustard seed). The statue is seated in a open mantapa with plain rough square pillars. The right hands hold the ankusa and broken tusk, while the upper left holds a looped pasa. The lower left hand and the trunk are broken. The belly is tied with a snake.
Kodandarama temple:
This is still worshipped and the main deities worshipped here are Rama, Sita and Laxman. Well the temple was built when Lord Ram crowned Sugriva.
Lotus Mahal:
This mahal was built for thr queens, built entirely of stone and having Islamic influence in architecture.
Pushkarani:
It is a stepped well and was used by the royal womenfolk at that time.
sister stones:
There are two similar looking stones are called Sister Stones. According to legend, two jealous sisters visiting Hampi were commenting badly about the city. The goddess heard this and cursed them ,result was they turned into stones.
Sahasra lingas
are also the major attraction in Hampi.There are 1008 lingas.
