Dr.Devi Prasad Shetty - Life and career
He born at Kinnigoli which was in South Kanara but now spread in both the districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada in Karnataka, he has completed his graduation in Medicine and also Post Graduation in General Surgery both from Kasturba Medical College at Mangalore. He acquired his training in Cardiac Surgery from the well known Hospital in the United Kingdom the Guys Hospital.
When he came back to India in the year 1989 at the initial stages he has worked at B.M.Birla Hospital in Kolkata, later he moved on to Bangalore where he worked at Manipal Heart Foundation at Manipal Hospital at Bangalore, many of his admirers were spread all over the world few of them are from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and especially many are from Southern part of Asia.

Sparsh this is the name of the hi-tech and state of the art hospital also founded by him and another multi specialty ophthalmology hospital called as Narayana Nethralaya, he has founded another famous hospital for its high level treatments at Kolkata Rabindranath Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences [RTIICS].

His another milestone is incredible as he is the first surgeon in the country to conduct a neo-natal open heart surgery, further he is the first surgeon in the medical world to conduct a surgery to close the hole in the heart with the help of microchip camera, he is first person to use an artificial heart in the country and has performed the first ever surgery using the stomach blood vessels to bypass the blocked arteries of the heart. he has successfully conducted the first ever dynamic cardiomyoplastry operation and he is first person to reduce the cost of surgery and medicines in respect of cardiac problems. He is first person to introduce the concept of assembly line heart surgery and greatness of this is till today it has achieved zero level mortality.
His another service to society is he operates free of cost to the kids who are under twelve years of age, so for in his service span of over thirteen years has seen over 13,000 heart surgeries, it is his compassion. His main aim is to make cardiac surgery at an affordable cost by creating a chain of cardiac hospitals in all the states the main aim of them to serve the working class.
Now the hospital founded by him has got one more feather that it is appointed as the telemedicine center by many countries, now the Narayana Hrudayala is the biggest telemedicine center in the world, which extends its helping hand to 19 countries in the world, he has made use of IT in its full extent as it is technologically viable and the heart treatment is almost reachable.
