Murudeshwara Temple - Tourist Information

  1. Murudeshwara temple is located in holy beach town of Bhatkal Taluk, Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka state.

  2. The name "Murudeshwara" refers to lord Shiva also known Eeshwara.

  3. The special feature of this holy place dates to the time of Ramayana.

  4. This temple is built on the Kanduka hill which is covered by the waters of Arabian Sea in three sides.

  5. This temple is dedicated to lord shiva and the world’s tallest shiva statue is here which is 123 feet height long.

  6. This world famous statue was built by Shivamogga's Kashinath at a cost of around 50 million rupees, financed by businessman and philanthropist Mr R.N. Shetty.

  7. The 20 storied, 1249 feet world’s tallest famous raja gopura was constructed by businessman and philanthropist Mr R N Shetty on the temple.

  8. The special feature of the idol present here is that it gets the sun light directly and thus appears with sparkling.

  9. Best time to Visit this place is November to February.
