Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium was established in 1989 by Bangalore City Corporation with the intension of providing an awareness of solar system & space to the common people. Later the administration was handed over to the Bangalore Association for Science Education(BASE) and now it is managed by BASE. The dome in the Planetarium is of 15m diameter and it has a seating capacity of 225. It is also equipped with "Space Master" planetarium projector, slide projectors, video projectors, special effect projectors and a six inch code refractor telescope.You will really be mesmerized to see the solar show conducted here. With the help of the projectors, you can see the stars, orbitation of planets, stages of formation of celestial bodies etc. on the dome as seen with the naked eye. The show also exhibits Cartoons, Paintings, Video clippings, Astro-photographs etc. Daily 2 shows of 1 hr each are held here except on mondays & second tuesdays.
Apart from the planetarium, there is a Science Centre & a Science Park on this premise. Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium is a must see place in Bangalore especially for the science enthusiasts.The visit to this place will definitely be an unforgettable experience.
