    Kodachadri - A Natural Heritage site in karnataka



    Kodachadri is located in Hosanagar taluk of Shimoga district in Karnataka. Kodachadri is 1343 meters above sea level & is the highest peak of western ghats in Shimoga. The distance from bangalore to Kodachadri is 375 km. Recently, Karnataka govt. declared the "Ambara Gudda" region (about 250 hectares) of Kodachadri as one of the Natural Heritage Sites of Karnataka.

    Kudachadri has always been a favorite destination of environmentalists & adventure enthusiasts. Many tourists visit this place for bird watching & wild life photography. The geographical specialities of Kodachadri makes it an ideal place for trekking in Kodachadri, Karnataka. The original Mookambika temple in Kodachadri is built by Adi Shankaracharya is here. Also, you can see the "Sarvajna Peetha" of Sankaracharya on the hill. From peak, it is possible to see the sunset.

    The famous Kollur Mookambika Temple is near to Kodachadri. Kodachadri has got one of the important pilgrim places of Karnataka as well as tourism map.
