Mysore Palace Karnataka Dussehra Festival Tourist Attractions Programs 2010

1. You can see the Mysore Palace Royal Throne of the Wodeyar Dynasty, Karnataka. The Royal Throne contains 200kgs of gold and is studded with gemstones. The Mysore Palace itself will be lighted up by thousands of LED lights - an awesome sparkling sight to behold!

2. You can have a grand time at the 2010 Mysore Dasshera Exhibition organized at the Doddakere Maidan grounds, which is located opposite the Mysore Palace. Here, there are stalls selling traditional handicrafts and sarees of Karnataka, the famous Channapatna wooden toys, etc. There will also be food stalls and a Ferris wheel. There will likely be battery-operated vehicles for senior citizens and the physically challenged, and perhaps a toy train for kids.

3. You can watch the magnificent 2010 Mysore Palace Jumbo Savari, a procession of caparisoned jumbo elephants. About 2 months before the Mysore Dussehra Festival, these elephants are brought to the Mysore Palace grounds, fed and looked after by their keepers. One of these elephants gets the honour of carrying the idol of Goddess Chamundeswari in a golden Howdah. Folk artistes, musical bands of the Karnataka State Police and colourful tableaux are also part of the Mysore Palace Dusshera elephant procession. The tableaux will be decorated based on the theme of Karnataka dynasties. Besides elephants, horses too will be part of the procession.

Mysore Palace Jumbo Savari Elephant Procession Road Route: The route for the caparisoned elephants' procession is generally the same every year, starting at the Mysore Palace and winding its way along the 5km route to the Bannimantap grounds. So if you want to stand at the roadside and watch, here's the likely route:
Mysore Palace - Chamarajendra Circle - K.R. Circle - Sayyaji Rao Road - Ayurveda College Circle - Highway Circle – Bannimantap Torchlight Parade Grounds.

4. You can enjoy the Panjina Kavayatthu, a beautiful torch-light parade at the Bannimantap grounds where the elephant procession ends. Fireworks, laser shows and daring stunts by Indian army personnel are the highlights of the show. Tickets for the Mysore torch-light parade at Bannimantap are available at Mysore Urban Development Authority office, the Mysore City Corporation office, or at any Tourist Information kiosk in Mysore.
