Navarathna Kuruma in Karnataka Style

Karnataka's Special Recipe: Arusuvayin Orusuvai, Navarathna Kuruma


Ingredients required for the Navarathna Kuruma Recipe in Karnataka Style



1 Cup (Boiled) - Chow-Chow(Chayote), white radish, potato and white pumpkin

1 Chopped - Onion

1 Chopped - Tomato

1 Chopped - Apple

1 Slice - Pineapple(chunked)

6-7 Pieces - Green Grapes

1/2 Cup - Tooty Frooty / Cherries

1/2 Cup - Fried Panneer (ಪನ್ನೀರ್) cubes

1 Tsp - Garam Masala

1/2 Tsp - Red Chillie Powder

1 Tbsp - Ginger Paste

2 Tsp - Poppy Seeds

1/2 Cup - Milk

3 - Cardamom Pods

10 - Deskinned Almonds

Grind and Reserve



Put the poppu seeds and the cardamom Pods in the mixer jar and add half a cup of milk to it and grind them well to become a fine paste. Also add the deskinned almonds with this.

Preparation Method of Navarathna Kuruma in Karnataka Style



1 Take a tawa or a pan and pour 2 table spoons of oil in it.

2 Put the chopped onions and fry till it gets to the golden brown color.

3 Once the onion changes to golden brown color add the ginger paste and fry for 2 more minutes.

4 Then add tomatoes to this mixture and mix it well. Fry till it blends well.

5 Now put required amount of salt and cook it closed with a lid for 2 other minutes.

6 In this mean time boil the mixture of veggetables till it becomes tender. You can even boil it in Microwave oven.

7 Now to this cooked mixtue of onion, ginger and tomato, add the fruits and mix well. Do not cook it longer, once the fruits are added.

8 Next add the almond paste and the masala powder and stir fry till the flavor and odour tell you, "I'm Done".

9 Finally add the boiled veggetables and panner and stir it well till the right consistency is attained.

Now the dish, Navarathna Kuruma in Karnataka Style is ready to serve. You can enjoy this dish, Navarathna Kuruma in Karnataka Style with chappathi, parata or even dosa.
