Tomato Rice in Karnataka style

What are the Ingredients required to make tomato rice ?





Tomato Rice in Karnataka Style!




For The Masala :


1. 2 tbsps of refined oil.

2. 6 dry red chillies

3. 2 tsp coriander seeds

4. 1 tbsp Bengal gram)

5. 1 tsp black lentils

6. 1/4 tsp fenugreek leaves and seeds

7. 1/2 tsp Asafoetida

8. 2 tbsp grated dry coconut




For Seasoning :


1. 3/4 cup tomato pulp

2. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder

3. salt to taste

4. 1 tbsp coconut oil or any other refined oil

5. 2 tsp ghee

6. 1 tsp mustard seeds

7. 3 tbsp peanuts

8. 6 to 7 curry leaves

9. 2 tsp finely chopped green chillies

10. 1/2 cup chopped onions

11. 2 1/2 cups cooked rice



How to Prepare Tomato Rice in Karnataka style ?




For the masala :


1.Heat the oil in a medium sized pan, add all the ingredients and sauté on a medium flame for 4 to 5 minutes or till the flavor comes out, while stirring continuously. Keep it aside.

2.When it gets cooled , blend in a mixer grinder to a fine powder. Keep it aside.


3.Combine the tomato pulp, turmeric powder and salt, mix well and simmer for 5 to 7 minutes or till the mixture thickens, while stirring continuously.

4.Add the prepared masala, mix well and simmer for a minute. Keep aside.
Heat the oil and ghee in a kadhai and add the mustard seeds.

For Seasoning :

5.When the seeds crackle, add the peanuts and curry leaves and sauté on a slow flame till the peanuts turn light brown in colour while stirring continuously.

6.Add the green chillies and onions, mix well and sauté on a medium flame for 4 to 5 minutes, while stirring continuously.

7.Add the cooked tomato pulp, rice and salt if required, mix gently and cook on a slow flame for another 2 minutes. Serve it hot.


Yummy Hot Tomato Rice in Karnataka style is ready to eat!!
