Film entries for the film festival

The 4th Bengaluru International Film Festival, slated to be held at nine screens in the City from December 15 to 22, will feature a total of 175 films, including 130 foreign, 30 Indian, including 15 Kannada films. 40 countries will participate in the festival. The focus of the country during the festival will be on the cinemas of Asian, Egyptian, Polish, Chitrabharathi (Indian Cinema) and the Kannada chalana Chitra (Kannada Cinema). The festival include special sections for Political cinema, Films of the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) award winners, NETPAC award winners, and a nostalgia section. There will be a section for retrospective (old from memory) films of Michael Cacoyannis and Theo Angelopoulos of Greece; Hsiao-hsien Hou of Taiwan; Dariush Mehrjui of Iran. In this section there will be Kannada films of Puttanna Kanagal and Malayalam films by G Aravindan. For the benefit of Senior citizens old feature films from different languages will be screened under special category 'Nostalgia' for senior citizens will feature old films from different languages. Mr Dariush Mehrjui from Iran film circle who was instrumental for the new wave Iranian films will be attending the festival. Special talks and seminars will be conducted during the festival.

Kannada section
7 Kannada films will be selected in Kannada cinema category by the selection committee for jury's consideration. One Kannada and one non Kannada Indian film will be selected under the world category entries from India. Apart from the films picked by the selection committee one Kannada film will be considered from the films under Chitrabharathi category. For competition under Kannada film category films can be submitted by the producers in the Asian category with the censor certificate and English sub-titled screens in 35 mm format. In all categories special preference will be given to Kannada films. In the categories of world cinema, Asian cinema and Indian cinema also one Kannada cinema each can be screened apart from the Kannada Cinema category which is exclusively for Kannada films only. All Kannada films falling within the period of 1.9.2010 to 31.8.2011 are eligible for participation to be selected by the selection committee.
Main venue of film festival
The main venue for the festival will be Lido Complex at Ulsoor. This complex has 4 screens to run the cinemas. Films will be shown at single screens at central Inox, J P Nagar, Rejoyz at Malleswaram, the Information Department, Infantry Road, Badami House, N R Square, and Suchitra Film Society, BSK 2nd Stage. There are 350 entries for participation. Out of these 350, 175 films will be selected for screening.
Film festival Awards
There will be an award for the best film. The award for this will be 'Golden Berunda' which will carry a cash prize of Rs 10 lakhs. A 'Silver Berunda' award for the Best Director in the world cinema will carry a cash award of Rs 5 lakhs. There will be an award for the best Asian cinema an award of Rs 2 lakhs for promotion of Asian cinema by the NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema) Jury. This will be for the best film produced between 1-1-2010 and 15 -6-2011. For the Chitra Bharathi (Indian cinema) there will be best film award of Rs 2 lakhs. This will be for the best Indian film produced during the period from 1-9-2010 to 31.8.2011. The Kannada cinema will get one prize of Rs 2 lakhs for the best Kannada film produced between 1.9.2010 and 31.8.2011 from the film societies' pick.

The awards will be presented by the Chalanachitra Academy according to the chairman of Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy and Festival Director Sri T S Nagabharana.
The State Government has sanctioned Rs three crore for the festival.

Entries are invited for all categories in the Competition Section from Kannada filmmakers. Submissions of Kannada films for entries will be open till the 15th of November, 2011.
